Foundations in Language Arts (9-10): This Language Arts class is built for students in 9th and 10th grade. The focus for this course is on essay writing, covering argument, narrative, and research essays. Students will read poetry, short stories, scripts, and novel excerpts, with the expectation that they will comprehend each topic and form an opinion on it, using evidence in the text to support an argument. This is a-g course and will cover the common core standards for this age range, following the assignments listed in a-g syllabi. This class will utilize intriguing material and approaches to help engage students and encourage them to write confidently, both in an academic and creative style.
To avoid students duplicating course work through 9th and 10th grade, this class operates on a two year rotating curriculum. Additionally, it meets all applicable standards and follows an a-g approved syllabus. Books read in Fall: A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and EmmaParticipants must be entering grades 9 to 10.
