Description

This course provides a detailed introduction to the methods and concepts of general biology with regular student-directed labs, hands-on projects, and small-group experiments. This course meets and exceed all UC standards for a-g credit in a fun, dynamic, lab class setting. Heavily emphasizing the vocabulary of biology, this class provides a strong background in the scientific method, biochemistry, cellular biology, molecular and Mendelian genetics, evolution, dissection, and ecosystems. It also provides an overview of plant, animal, and human anatomy and physiology. Students who successfully complete this course will be well-prepared for a university biology course. This course is recommended for high school students.

The student will be responsible for completing 3-5 hours of assignments outside of class each week. The primary learning opportunity will be through reading the material, answering critical thinking questions, and completing chapter assessments. In class, the opportunities for learning will mostly consist of discussions, group activities, and lab experiments. This is a year long course that provides the student with 60 hours of instruction time including over 30 hours of wet labs. All course assignments are tracked on Canvas.
