Description

FUNdamentals in Language Arts (7-8):  The focus for this course is on essay writing, covering argument, narrative, and research essays. Students will read poetry, short stories, scripts, and novel excerpts, with the expectation that they will comprehend each topic and form an opinion on it, using evidence in the text to support an argument.  It will cover the common core standards for this age range, while using intriguing material and approaches to help engage students and encourage them to write confidently, both in an academic and creative style. Expectations include attention in class, the ability to format in MLA style (with guidance), and at least one hour of at home study per week. Students must be able to type assignments and turn them in online, on our class homepage located on our learning management system. Book Being read in Fall (provided by Instructor): The Giver
